1. Food Security Program for better education for children under 5 years old

Our Food Security Program focuses on improving education for children under 5 years old by ensuring they have proper nutrition. This initiative recognizes the crucial link between adequate nutrition and cognitive development during the early formative years. By addressing food insecurity among young children, we help establish a foundation for better educational outcomes and improved overall well-being in the Sholi community.

2. Health Facility in the Sholi Community

We have established health facilities within the Sholi community to improve access to essential healthcare services. This initiative ensures that community members can receive medical attention without having to travel long distances, addressing a critical need for accessible healthcare in rural areas. Our health facilities provide preventative care, treatment for common illnesses, and health education to improve overall community wellbeing.

3. Single Mothers Integration in Coffee Growing Communities

The main objective of this initiative is to reintegrate single mothers in the coffee growing communities. In terms of fighting against poverty, avoiding migration from rural areas to urban cities, empowering them in financial security involvement, and preparing a better future for their children.

The project addresses several identified issues for single mothers in the Sholi community:

  • The average age of coffee farmers is increasing, and the next generation shows less interest in continuing in this field
  • Young people perceive agriculture as unattractive due to lack of new technology and low profitability
  • Young people feel undervalued and excluded from community and family decision making
  • Migration of young people to urban centers or overseas is a regional challenge
  • Additional factors such as climate change effects on agriculture, increased community violence, lack of connectivity or services, and inability to access productive assets amplify migration

Through this initiative, single mothers develop handcraft skills and create various items, providing them with additional income sources and meaningful employment.

4. Women Empowerment and Coffee Agriculture Business Involvement

We have empowered women and involved them in the coffee farming business, helping them resolve primary family financial issues and promoting the brand name of Kundwa women coffee on the international market. This initiative has helped them save money and become active in community development.

The program focuses on providing women with training in sustainable coffee production techniques, financial literacy, and market access.

5. Diversification and Value Addition Program

These projects based on the Fairtrade Premium aim to empower coffee farmers to gain secondary income sources, helping to eliminate poverty in the community. The Coffee Value Addition also helps the cooperative increase turnover and save profit from coffee value addition sales.

Through diversification, farmers are less vulnerable to market fluctuations and climate impacts, while value addition ensures more of the final product value remains within the community.

6. Environmental Protection Initiatives

Our environmental protection program encompasses several key initiatives:

A. Road Infrastructure Maintenance

In February 2023, we built a new bridge to replace the old one destroyed by heavy rains.

B. Vermicompost Project

We've implemented a vermicompost project to increase coffee yield production through sustainable soil enrichment techniques.

C. Waste Water Treatment

Our waste water treatment systems ensure that water used in coffee processing doesn't contaminate local water sources.

D. Farmer Learning Center

The Sholi cooperative farmer learning center provides training to coffee producers on good agricultural practices.

E. Water Supply and Sanitation

We invest in environmental protection by improving water quality and ensuring food and water security.

7. Coffee Quantity Extension and Quality Control
